April 2008

Just a reminder that the AGM is being held at Sywell on the 10 th October 2007. Please notify Mike Cuttell of your intention to attend.

PLEASE check your details in the Membership List, as a revised one will go to print in the near future. E-mail and mobile details change the most often and usually only become apparent after the List is distributed. I know from the e-news that I send out that a number of you aren’t getting the e-mails as I get so many mail returns due to changed addresses. Broadband instigated a lot to change.

11 aeroplanes with 27 members on board will be meeting in Vilshoven (in the South East of Germany) on 26th May, to start our Tour of Romania the next day. David Corbett is bringing the tour together and as usual with these trips, he is facing plenty of problems. However, the tour will go ahead and we will be having a good look at how this new member of the EU is adapting to their new regime. A full report will appear in the August newsletter.

On the 25th April, around 25 members flew into Bourn near Cambridge where fellow member, William Mumford brought us up to speed with the latest in GPS technology. This was followed in the afternoon with the chance to drive some tractors and a sprayer with autosteer and satellite sprayer control. He gave us an excellent lunch which added to the enjoyment of the day out. Thanks William. There are a few pictures for this and other events on the PHOTOS page.

“We had a meeting on 5th February at the Thames Barrier. Around 30 members attended. We were given a talk on the history of the Barrier and shown a video, then taken along the underground service channels to see one of the ‘islands’ which house the massive pistons which pull the oval shaped gates from their river bed parking position to the vertical barrier position. Thanks to Mike Cuttell for organising the meeting. See the pictures on the PHOTOS page.”

“The FFA Committee had their 6 monthly meeting at the Farmers Club in London after the Thames Barrier meeting. Apart from Committee matters, other things discussed were;

A proposed meeting to be held in the Hebrides, landing on a beach strip, to be held in August and organised by Mike Ashmole.

The Secretary would like to hear from any one with airstrip problems so that he can amass a database, so that when a member calls the FFA with a problem, he can be referred to others who have had similar problems to help out. A recent example was a rating issue.

In the future, non members will only be accepted at events after the closing date of the meeting, to ensure that all members get first chance.

3 new applications for membership were accepted and two rejected. There are now 386 members.”
